House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has agreed to allow committee debate and a vote there on a bill that would legalize marijuana on the federal level.
Marijuana Moment reported that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) was able to secure the assurance. She is the sponsor of the States Reform Act , which was first introduced in November 2021.
The last action on the legislation, which would also establish a cannabis excise tax, was in November 2022, when it was referred to the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security.
The bill has not yet been refiled in the current congressional session.
