HYG - Bond Market Roundup: Yields rise on the week and the yield curve tightens

The bond market experienced an overall increase in Treasury yields for the week. This came amid another Federal Reserve rate hike and further data on inflation and the overall economy.

Below is a snapshot of moves that took place in the bond market this week:

Treasury Yields

Outlined below is the price action for a multitude of US Treasury yields that took place over the course of the week. Prices reflect moves from the July 21 close to present:

  • The U.S. 2-Year Treasury yield ( US2Y ) gained 6 basis points to 4.90%.
  • The U.S. 5-Year Treasury yield ( US5Y ) gained 8 basis points to 4.17%.
  • The U.S. 10-Year Treasury yield ( US10Y ) gained 13 basis points to 3.96%.
  • The U.S. 20-Year Treasury yield ( US20Y ) gained 12 basis points to 4.22%.

Yield Curve

Towards the end of the trading week the yield curve remains inverted between the U.S. 2-Year and the U.S. 10-Year. The inversion between the 2-Year and 10-Year sits at -93 basis points which is tighter than its recent wider point of -105 basis points that was recorded at the end of June.
