Newmont Corporation ( NYSE:NEM ) has formed a 50/50 Exploration Joint Venture in Colombia with Agnico Eagle Mines Limited ( NYSE:AEM ), wherein the latter will lead exploration of the Anza project and advance other prospective gold targets of district-scale potential in Colombia. According to the press release, Anza is "a gold exploration project, comprising exploration contracts and applications totaling approximately 200 km 2 located in the Mid-Cauca belt in Colombia." Tom Palmer, President and CEO of Newmont, said:
"We are excited to partner with Agnico Eagle to further advance exploration opportunities in this highly prospective region in Colombia. Our companies share similar views of safe and responsible mining practices with proven expertise in Greenfields exploration areas."
Kinross Gold Corporation ( NYSE:KGC ) has entered into agreements to acquire a 70 percent interest in the high-quality Peak Gold project in Alaska from Royal Gold, Inc. ( NasdaqGS:RGLD ) and Contango Ore, Inc. ( OTC:CTGO ) for total cash consideration of $93.7 million. The company expects to begin production at the project in 2024 "with total production of approximately 1 million Au eq. oz. over 4.5 years at average mining grades of approximately 6 g/t." J. Paul Rollinson, Kinross Gold President and CEO, said:
"The relatively high-grade, low-cost Peak Gold project is an excellent addition to our portfolio, as it allows us to leverage our existing mill and infrastructure at Fort Knox and strengthens our medium-term production and cash flow profile. In today's gold price environment, Peak Gold is an attractive, high-margin project that is expected to generate robust returns. The project is also expected to add to our strong record of socio-economic contributions to our host communities in Alaska, one of the top mining jurisdictions in the world."
Grand Portage Resources Ltd. ( TSXV:GPG ) has announced the first assay results from the summer drill program at its Herbert Gold Project in Southeast Alaska. Though protocols resulting from COVID-19 have slowed assay processing, the company expects final sample results throughout October and into December. The company's President, Ian Klassen, commented:
"This drill program reaffirms the emerging and ever-enlarging mesothermal vein system discovered at the Herbert gold project. These results continue to expand the resource database and knowledge of this system. All veins drilled have encountered mineralized material. Mesothermal veins are commonly less than two metres wide and at the Herbert deposit often occur in parallel sets."
Appia Energy Corp. ( CSE:API ) has completed 2,506.8 metres of diamond drilling in 18 drill holes on its Alces Lake high-grade rare earth element (REE) property in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Among the highlights, this has yielded a confirmed extension of high-grade REE mineralization over a distance of 145 m within the 875 m strike length, representing the amalgamation of the Wilson, Richard, Charles and Bell high-grade zones.
