GDS Holdings (GDS -1.8%), a Chinese data center operator, has acquired greenfield land in Nongsa Digital Park in Batam, Indonesia to build two data center buildings. The buildings will cover ~10,000 square meters of floor area with 28MW of IT power capacity. GDS plans to use renewable energy to power the site. The development will complement an existing GDS project in Nusajaya Tech Park, Johor Bahru, Malaysia as part of its 'Singapore Plus' regional strategy. GDS has signed strategic cooperation deals with a major undisclosed Chinese cloud service provider to support its expansion. Under this deal, GDS will become its data center provider in the region.
