T - Making PTT Cool Again

2024-03-20 08:37:53 ET

DENVER, Colo., Mar 20, 2024 ( 247marketnews.com )- Siyata Mobile (NASDAQ: SYTA ), Motorola (NYSE: MSI ), T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS ), and AT&T (NYSE: T ) are mentioned or featured.

Siyata Mobile (NASDAQ: SYTA ) is an original equipment manufacturer and seller of push-to-talk (PTT) handsets, vehicle kits, and related accessories, for the Push-to-Talk Over Cellular (PoC) market, like its mission critical PoC (MCPTT) SD7 handsets and accessories.

While Siyata’s focus is on making PTT cool, again, it impossible to appreciate how we got here without rewinding to the beginning and, in addition to being the progenitor of the unlimited cellular calling plans to a national customer base, Nextel was the first company to implement a nationwide PTT program.

PTT allowed Nextel to provide unique solutions to fleet and dispatch users.

However, Nextel’s rabid fan base spread well beyond those verticals.

Some of the other industries that embraced PTT were obvious, like contractors who were running multiple crews and/or complex trades, whereas other verticals weren’t; at least not initially.

Companies that were operating on both sides of the US border drove PTT’s initial popularity in binational metropolises like Detroit-Windsor, San Diego-Tijuana, and El Paso- Juarez, due to PTT being a dependable and affordable corporate communications tool.

From there, PTT became a valued means for family and friends to affordably stay in touch with loved ones without the brutal international calling charges, and Nextel’s Motorola (NYSE: MSI ) PTT devices were among the most common communication tools around.

Of course, that ended with the Sprint (NASDAQ: TMUS ) merger

While PTT remains the preferred option for several verticals, like commercial and governmental dispatch and fleet operators, PTT is making inroads elsewhere, especially within first responder communities.

The common lesson learned from 9-11, the Boston Bombing, and Hurricane Katrina, was that effective communication is the key to achieving the best possible outcomes, so the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published warnings against relying on outdated Land Mobile Radio (LMR) voice-only radio networks, as they do not allow for key communication tools, like data and video, the first major public safety ecosystem move, in generations, was to develop dedicated first responder networks.

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) (NYSE: T ) was established, in 2012, after Congress allocated 20MHz of radio spectrum to create a dedicated public safety network, which it auctioned the management rights to a major cellular provider that would build the network.

The other major carriers followed by rolling out their first responder network solutions and mobile broadband improved overall operational efficiency and transformed how emergency services communicate, and coordinate their efforts, especially when multiple agencies are involved, which is common for hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, and other disasters.

In addition to its current offerings, Siyata is gearing up to launch its upcoming SD7+ all-in-one handset, which features MCPTT and bodycam video streaming solutions, with stronger signal reception that can help first responders remain connected while in adverse weather conditions, at extended distance from the nearest cell tower, and obscure terrain, including hard-to-reach would be dead spots in basements, elevators, and stairwells, for public safety and private security markets.

From law enforcement to firefighters and EMS paramedics to search teams, first responders come in many forms and their ranks are growing. No matter the uniform or the crisis, deploying the right tools that effectively distributes key data to the first responder team can mean the difference between success or calamity for the public they serve.

Natural disasters and other devastating events accentuate the urgency for advanced, secure technologies that can aid first responders in the field and helps explain why Research and Markets projects that “In an age of rapid digital transformation and heightened demand for secure, real-time communications, the Global Public Safety LTE Market is experiencing remarkable growth. Starting at a value of US$7.5 Billion in 2022, this vital industry is poised to surge to a value of US$28.8 Billion by 2030.”

Critical Communications Today stated, “And then there are the high numbers of first-responders that need to be migrated. There are upwards of 60,000 public safety agencies in the USA and more than 10,000 LMR networks. Rough figures estimate there are between 750,000 and 850,000 sworn police officers, 826,000 licensed and credentialed Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals and around 1,216,600 career and volunteer firefighters.”

The growing frequency of extreme weather events, fire risk, expansion of population with chronic diseases, aging population, and increasing geopolitical unrest will only grow already healthy defense spending.

Siyata recently broke through to become one of the rare devise manufacturers to be carried by the four largest carriers and is, by far, the smallest company to reach that honor, which indicates how much room SYTA has to grow.

A recently uploaded video, titled “Mission Critical Communications for University of California, Davis Fire” mentions Siyata’s mission critical push-to-talk handset and how the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems evolution is helping the department with its communication needs.

Just like staying in touch with my friends in Chihuahua, transitioning from LMR to standalone broadband PTT service, or augment their existing radio systems with broadband PTT service, will allow first responders to stay connected, even when they are outside of the LMR coverage area.
