CRSR - Videogame sales in Q2 pull off surprising 2% gain against tough pandemic comparison
CasarsaGuru/E+ via Getty Images Consumer spending on videogames in the second quarter eked out a 2% gain against very tough pandemic comps, giving some backup to bullish analysts who believe the year of stay-at-home orders won't just be a flash in the pan for the games industry. Data from NPD Group's Q2 2021 Games Market Dynamics report show overall spending hit $14B for the April-June quarter, with gains across PC, cloud and non-console VR content, mobile and subscription spending as well as hardware. It's a bit of a comedown from Q1's 30% year-over-year growth, but Q1 2020 of course came largely before widespread lockdowns that proved a boon for work/play-from-home companies and stocks into 2021. And the few categories that declined may prove interesting with a bit more data: console content and accessories.
