One of the biggest 2023 NFL season storylines likely happened in the first week of an 18-week season with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffering a season-ending injury.
The injury impacted betting odds for the New York Jets and could have an impact on its current postseason drought.
What Happened: In the opening Monday Night Football game of the 2023 NFL season, Rodgers tore his left Achilles. The injury happened only four offensive plays into the Jets and Rodgers’ 2023 NFL season.
The blame game has gone around with the field conditions of MetLife Stadium and the poor blocking of the Jets offensive line each getting their share of attention.
A conservative television host has another person to blame with Rodgers himself the target of the criticism.
"He lost the eye of the tiger, a competitive quarterback can’t be all happy and goofy all the time,” Newsmax host Greg Kelly said. "Something happened to this guy and I think I know what it was: drugs.”
The comments from Kelly, reported by Awful Announcing, saw the conservative host blaming Rodgers' past use of psychedelics, including ayahuasca tea.
"That gives you this, oh I love you bro mentality. He took it and he encouraged others to do the same. I thought it was a very harmful message.”
Kelly played a clip of Rodgers discussing his past use of ayahuasca tea, where he discussed self-love and healing and helping to see how to unconditionally love himself and others.
After playing the clip, Kelly shared his criticism of Rodgers and what the quarterback should have been focused on to prevent injury.
