In a move that has caught the attention of many following the U.S. government’s efforts to investigate unidentified flying objects (UFOs), the Pentagon’s top official in charge of such inquiries is stepping down.
What Happened: Sean Kirkpatrick, the chief of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, will be resigning from his position next month, reported POLITICO.
Kirkpatrick, who has led AARO since its inception by the Biden administration in July 2022, will retire from federal service after completing approximately a year and a half in the role. Asserting that he has fulfilled his objectives, Kirkpatrick shared his intent to finalize certain tasks, such as completing a historical review of unidentified anomalous phenomena, before his departure.
He will be succeeded on an interim basis by his deputy Tim Phillips until a permanent replacement is appointed. Kirkpatrick’s decision comes after a period of heightened public and legislative interest in UFOs and potential extraterrestrial encounters. Under his guidance, the AARO has examined over 800 cases, contributing to national security assessments.
