GE - AES signs deal with PetroVietnam Gas for $2.8B LNG import terminal
"Vietnam has given the green light to AES Corp. (AES) to go forward" with a project to develop a local $2.8B LNG import terminal and power plant, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at a virtual Indo-Pacific Business Forum.Much of the LNG will be imported from the U.S., which wants to narrow its trade deficit with Vietnam, which widened to $44.3B in the first nine months of this year from $33.96B in the same period of 2019."American companies adhere to the rule of law and transparency and have very high standards of quality for their products," Pompeo added. "I say that because that's quite a contrast with the Chinese state-backed companies."Also at the forum, Delta Offshore Energy formalized an earlier announced plan for a $3B agreement with Bechtel Corp., General Electric (GE) and McDermott (MDRIQ) for the development of a 3.2-gigawatt LNG power plant in the Bac Lieu province.
