ULCC - Airline bookings continue to improve off domestic strength
Bank of America says airline system sales fell -64.1% for the week ending April 18 vs. the level seen for the same week in 2019. That marks a sequential improvement from the -66.3% and -69.8% levels of the prior two weeks. The firm notes that domestic leisure continues its strong run with domestic tickets sold through online travel agencies down only -0.4% against the 2019 level vs. -5.1% for the prior week. "Overall domestic tickets sold down -33.8% (vs last week’s -38.0%). After a stagnant start to the year, international tickets sold have been slowly improving and are now down -51.3% vs 2019, which compares to -66.9% at the start of March and - 74.0% at the start of 2021, and we suspect most of the demand is into Mexico, the Caribbean, and other Latin American markets based on commentary this earnings season.
