MESA - Airline stocks track higher after strong bookings into Memorial Day weekend
U.S. airline bookings tracked considerably ahead of 2019 levels, according to fresh data from Bank of America. Domestic leisure tickets sold were up +29.5% in comparison to 2019 to accelerate from the +4.4% mark for the prior week. The timing of the holiday this year may have influenced the comparison. On a system basis, BofA says sales were down -51.3% vs 2019 for the week ending May 23 vs last week's -59.7% and -63.3% the week before. Domestic pricing was flat for the last week. Importantly, tickets booked through corporate channels showed steady improvement again and are down -58.1% vs. 2019 vs. -66.6% last week.
