AMRN - Amarin announces resignation of CEO

• Ireland-based biotech Amarin Corporation ( NASDAQ: AMRN ) announced Friday that President and Chief Executive Officer Karim Mikhail has decided to step down, effective immediately.
• Amarin ( AMRN ), the developer of fish oil-derived therapy Vascepa/Vazkepa, said Mr. Mikhail notified his plans to resign on Mar. 27 and that he has "asserted" he is entitled to severance payments as a result of the resignation.
• The company is conducting an executive search to find his successor.
• The announcement follows a proxy battle between Sarissa Capital and Amarin ( AMRN ) in which the activist investor won seven board seats, ousting the company chairman early this month.
• In conjunction with the CEO's departure, Amarin ( AMRN ) announced the appointment of Odysseas D. Kostas as chairperson of the Board.
