Amazon.com's (AMZN) planned $8.45B acquisition of the MGM studio (MGMB) has largely played as just the latest skirmish in the streaming wars, with Amazon Prime Video seen as a contender to land among a favored few top DTC companies after some expected shakeouts. But the move is a lot bigger game than just TV, media consultant Alan Wolk says, suggesting there's a larger platform play at work. Is Amazon now a real competitor to Netflix (NFLX)?
