ISHP - Americans Are In A Sour Mood But It Didn't Dampen Their Spending: Splurging At Retailers
- Retail sales jumped 0.9% in April from March, after having jumped 1.4% in March from February, to $678 billion, and were up 8.2% from a year ago, seasonally adjusted, the Commerce Department reported on Tuesday.
- Raging inflation has outpaced the income growth of many Americans, and they’re also shifting spending into services.
- Sales at New and Used Vehicle and Parts Dealers, the largest retailer category, rose by 2.2% in April from March, to $132 billion, seasonally adjusted, but were down 1.7% from a year ago.
