WLTW - Aon's purchase of Willis Towers Watson gets European Commission approval
JL Images/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Aon (AON) and Willis Towers Watson (WLTW) confirm that the European Commission conditionally approves the proposed combination of the two companies. "This is a major step that demonstrates continued progress toward obtaining regulatory clearances for the proposed combination," the companies said in a statement. Their statement also emphasizes that their businesses operate "across broad, competitive areas of the economy" and says the combination will provide clients "more choice in an already dynamic and competitive marketplace." The U.S. Department of Justice, though, disagrees with that assessment. Its trial challenging Aon's planned acquisition of WLTW is set to start Nov. 18.
