APPH - AppHarvest shares jumps as company hires Amazon veteran
imaginima/E+ via Getty Images AppHarvest, Inc. ([[APPH]] +8.0%) shares rose today as the company named Amazon veteran Mark Keller as the senior vice president of its software applications platform. Keller has been on Amazon's Web Services team for the past nine years, helping to launch the company's first full-scale Kiva robotics sortable warehouses and creating software used to operate Amazon warehouses and fulfillment centers. AppHarvest aims to make farming more sustainable by investing in robotics and artificial intelligence to use 90% less water than the amount required for regular agriculture. “The Holy Grail in agriculture is predicting and managing yield and quality,” AppHarvest founder and CEO Jonathan Webb commented. “Having Mark join will accelerate our efforts as we train our intelligent robot, Virgo, to harvest multiple crops." AppHarvest joined the Russell 2000 last month.
