Japan ( NKY:IND ) +1.49% . Japan's current account surplus surged to JPY 2,726.3 billion in September 2023 from JPY 853.08 billion in the same month a year earlier but less than market estimates of a gain of JPY 3,000.8 billion.

The gauge for Japan's service sector sentiment unexpectedly dropped to 49.5 in October 2023 from 49.9 in the previous month, missing market forecasts of 50.1.

The value of loans in Japan increased 2.8% year-on-year in October 2023, slowing slightly from a 2.9% growth in September, as widely expected.

In the U.S. on Wednesday, all three major indexes ended mixed , as investors weighed another batch of corporate results and continued to digest remarks from Federal Reserve officials.

U.S. stock futures eased on Thursday after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite notched their longest winning streak in about two years: Dow -0.02% ; S&P 500 -0.04% ; Nasdaq -0.02% .

Investors continued to digest remarks from Federal Reserve officials. Meanwhile, Fed Chair Jerome Powell did not make any comments on interest rates or the economy during his appearance at a conference celebrating the Fed's Centennial of the Division of Research and Statistics.
