Private health insurers will be required to cover at-home COVID-19 tests, President Joe Biden is expected to announce today, Reuters reports. Plan members could get reimbursed for over-the-counter tests, according to administration officials. The change comes in the face of the first case of the Omicron variant identified in the U.S. The new rule would not covers individuals on Medicaid or Medicare, and is not retroactive. Government agencies are expected to issue guidance by Jan. 15. Health insurers: UnitedHealth Group (UNH -0.5%), Cigna (CI +0.7%), Anthem (ANTM -1.8%). At-home test makers: Abbott (ABT +1.0%), Becton, Dickinson (BDX +0.8%), Cue Health (HLTH -0.1%), Lucira Health (LHDX +0.9%), Quidel (QDEL +1.9%). In October, the White House said it would invest $1B to boost supplies of at-home COVID tests.
