CG - Atotech gains on report MKS Instruments made acquisition offer

Zhanna Hapanovich/iStock via Getty Images Atotech (ATC) rose 6.5% in premarket trading after a report that MKS Instruments (MKSI) approached the specialty chemicals company with an acquisition offer. There's no guarantee Atotech will engage in talks with MKS Instruments, according to the Reuters report, which cited people familiar. Atotech has a market cap of $4.7B. Carlyle (CG), which acquired Atotech in 2016 for $3.2B, took it public in early February. The shares have gained 40% since the IPO. MKSI earlier this year bid for Coherent, but ultimately lost out in a bidding war to II-VI.
