In Australia, data showed that manufacturing activity remained contractionary in April.

The Judo Bank Flash Australia Manufacturing PMI rose to 49.6 in April, up from 47.3 in a month earlier, according to final estimates. It was a third consecutive monthly deterioration in manufacturing sector conditions, albeit at a marginal pace, the lowest in the current sequence.

In a separate release, the Ai Group Industry Index for the Australian manufacturing sector dropped by 6.9 points to -13.9 in April. Manufacturers reported rising input and utilities prices, while facing soft market demand and sluggish export orders to some regions.

The Ai Group Australian Industry Index fell by 3.6 points to -8.9 points in April 2024, remaining in contractionary conditions for the last twenty-four months.
