BRDS - Bird Global lays off ~23% workforce-TechCrunch
Santa Monica-based electric scooter firm Bird Global (NYSE:BRDS) is laying off 23% of its staff in an effort to cut costs, according to TechCrunch's reports, citing tech layoff tracker Layoffs. The job cuts are being attributed to an internal memo, but some LinkedIn posts from former employees confirm the news as well, Bellan says. Bird has also confirmed the layoffs to TechCrunch, saying that the departures will span across the organization and regions. A Bird spokesperson confirmed the layoffs in an emailed statement to dot.LA "while the need for and access to micro-electric vehicle transportation has never been greater, macroeconomic trends impacting everyone have resulted in an acceleration of our path to profitability." Previously in March 2020, Bird also laid off 30% of its employees, or about 406 people amid COVID-19 pandemic.
