Boeing ( NYSE: BA ) on Wednesday reported progress on a permanent fix for the anti-ice system on the 737 Max jet that possibly could overheat and cause an engine failure.

The plane maker in January withdrew a request for an exemption from a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration safety standard for the 737 Max 7, a shorter version of the best-selling jet that awaits a certification that could come next year.
