ULCC - Breeze Airways to begin flying in U.S. next week
Breeze Airways says it will begin flying in the U.S. on May 27 and expand to 16 cities by July, Breeze, which is the creation of JetBlue (JBLU) founder David Neeleman, landed government approval for flights earlier this week.Breeze will start flying with 13 Embraer jets in its fleet. The company has also ordered 60 slightly larger Airbus A220 jets that it expects to begin receiving in October.The new airline is targeting smaller cities largely overlooked by bigger carriers with nonstop service options.The list of initial flights includes Tampa-Charleston; Tampa-Louisville, Kentucky; Charleston-Hartford, Connecticut; Charleston-Tampa, and Charleston-Louisville. Breeze and Avelo Airlines (which began flying in late April on the West Coast) are aiming to attract leisure travelers with very low fares.The new carriers could mean a little extra pressure for Frontier Airlines (ULCC), Spirit Airlines (SAVE), Mesa Airlines (MESA) and perhaps even Southwest Airlines (LUV).
