MAKSF - British supermarkets testing products sold in reusable packaging
Tesco (OTCQX:TSCDF) is partnering with Loop Industries (LOOP +5.0%), a global reusable plastic company, to provide customers in 10 eastern England stores with the option to purchase products using reusable packaging that can be brought back when finished to be cleaned and used again. The pilot program will feature 88 products including Unilever's (UL +1.1%) Persil laundry detergent, Heinz ketchup (KHC +1.4%), and Coca-Cola (KO +0.7%) beverages, along with 35 Tesco brands. Prices are similar to regular products after the customer returns the items and receives back a refundable deposit starting at ¢70. British competitors Asda, Marks & Spencer (OTCQX:MAKSF -1.0%), and Morrisons (OTCPK:MRWSF) have been testing out similar products as British consumers become more environmentally-focused. Asda renewed its refill trial after several products using reusable packaging outsold alternatives. Tesco will expand reusable packaged products in its stores if the trial is successful.
