HEWC - Canada unemployment rate steady at 5%

- The unemployment rate in Canada held steady from the previous month at 5% in February of 2023, remaining close to the record-low of 4.9% observed in June and July 2022, and beating market forecasts of 5.1%.
- 21,800 jobs were added to the Canadian economy in the period, more than twice of expectations.
- The full-time employment 31.1K vs 121.1K last month.
- The part-time employment -9.3K vs 28.9K last month.
- The number of employees grew in the private sector (+39,000; +0.3%), while there was little change in public sector employment and in the number of self-employed.
- Total hours worked rose 0.6% in February and were up 1.4% on a year-over-year basis.
