August and September are some of the slowest months in terms of dividend growth for TSX-listed companies. To make matters worse, investors were not treated to their usual dividend raise announcements by the Big Banks. Most of them raise dividends bi-annually and several were due for an announcement.
However, the Feds have asked the banks not to raise dividends in this environment. Given this, the bank earnings season came and went with little fanfare - outside of the fact Canada's banks continue to defy bearish expectations as they handily beat estimates.
