SQ - Cathie Wood's ARKK snapped its eight-month losing streak in July
Cathie Wood’s flagship ARK Innovation ETF ( NYSEARCA: ARKK ) snapped its eight-month losing streak, finishing July with an advance for the month. This was the first positive monthly performance since October of 2021.
ARKK concluded the month of July +13.6% and amassed $394.16M of investor capital throughout the period.
Looking longer-term, ARKK hasn’t had as good of a trading month since June of 2021, when the fund saw a return of +15.9% .
Supporting ARKK’s recent leg higher were some of the exchange traded fund's top holdings. This included gains in stocks like Tesla ( TSLA ), Block ( SQ ) and Beam Therapeutics ( BEAM ).
For July, TSLA, which has a 9.94% weighting in ARKK and is the fund’s largest position, ended the month +30.9 . Also in the green in July were shares of SQ, and BEAM at 19% and 58.3% , respectively.
SQ is ARKK’s fourth most significant position at 5.12% and BEAM is Wood’s ninth most prominent position inside of ARKK, weighted at 4.55%. BEAM was also the top performing stock in the entire ETF for July.
While Wood’s ARKK rallied, it’s still deep in the red on 2022 as a whole. Year-to-date, ARKK is -53.83% . From a bigger picture, ARKK is off its all-time high by 72% and is down 63% over a one-year trading period. See chart below:
