APT - CDC to recommend some vaccinated people to wear masks indoors again - NYT
bondarillia/iStock via Getty Images Marking a sharp reversal from its earlier decision, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ((CDC)) is expected to recommend on Tuesday that vaccinated people against COVID-19 wear masks indoors under certain circumstances, the New York Times reported. The decision comes amid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases across the U.S. with the rising prevalence of the Delta variant of the virus. In May, the federal agency recommended that vaccinated individuals could avoid wearing face masks in most indoor settings. Commenting on the move, Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, said that “this is a move in the right direction,” as she cited the ability of the variant to cause breakthrough infections among vaccinated people.
