CPWHF - Ceres Power passes major milestone in green hydrogen program

Ceres Power Holdings PLC (AIM:CWR,OTC:CPWHF) Chief Technical Officer Dr Caroline Hargrove speaks toThomas Warner from Proactive London after the company announced amajor milestone in its green hydrogen program.
Ceres says its first-of-a-kind solid oxideelectrolysis (SOEC) demonstrator is producing hydrogen and will beready in the coming weeks to be sent to Shell’s R&D centre inIndia.
Hargrove explains that thetechnology employed by Ceres differentiates itself by utilising soliddioxide technology to split steam, rather than water, operating athigher temperatures. This approach results in a much higherthermodynamic efficiency, providing a 25% boost in efficiency,particularly in industrial settings with waste heat.
The efficiency gains are economicallyadvantageous in the production of green hydrogen, as the cost ofenergy is a primary cost factor for electrolysers.
This innovative technology is well-suitedfor industrial applications, specifically those with access to wasteheat, such as fertiliser production, ammonia synthesis, chemicalprocesses, and steel manufacturing.
The company's focus is on large-scale applications, withplans to develop a 10-megawatt building block, leading to theestablishment of a 100-megawatt factory.
Looking ahead, Ceresis preparing to send the unit to India for further development andevaluation. The partnership with Shell aims to explore differentapplications and possibilities for the technology, emphasizing theimportance of technology demonstrators and test facilities at scale.
