VIACA - Comcast CEO Roberts: On streaming sweet spot Peacock Hulu and broadband opportunity
Comcast (CMCSA +1.1%) CEO Brian Roberts says that industry developments are bearing out the company's previous position that "video over the Internet is more friend than foe." Asked at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference whether streaming was more threat or opportunity, Roberts says the company set up for this reality with its broadband investment: "We're powering streaming regardless of whether it's our own; it's still early days; we're integrating those apps with our own platforms; social media is becoming much more relevant to the next generation." Speaking about Peacock, the company's late-launching streaming service, he notes it's been a transition in the decade since Comcast bought NBCUniversal. "We inherited a company a decade ago that had committed really all of its content to Hulu (DIS +1.7%, CMCSA +1.1%), and all that content still resides on Hulu," he says, noting that the company continues to set up new arrangements to best monetize its content.
