A little over a year ago, I turned long-term bearish on the Commercial Vehicle Industry in general, and more specifically, on manufacturers of the Class 8 vehicles involved in the transportation of goods. Transportation is a core function of any economy, so it would be malpractice for portfolio managers to exit the sector entirely, but in my view it should have been, and should still be, an underweight position. In order to provide guidance on how to best express this view, I analyzed three of the sector's leading companies, AB Volvo ( OTCPK:VLVLY ), PACCAR ( PCAR ), and Daimler Truck Holding AG ( OTCPK:DTRUY ) (DTGHF).
