VIACA - Disney gains on Netflix: Recounting the quarter in streaming
Another earnings season is in the books for the emerging high-stakes market of streaming companies - and while it seems there are more services (both large and niche) than ever before, it's also clear that the household-choice horse race will probably come down to three or four horses. Faraway leader Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is obviously there, but jockeying for position alongside it on consumers' televisions are the likes of Amazon Prime Video (NASDAQ:AMZN), Hulu (DIS, CMCSA), HBO Max (NYSE:T), Paramount+ (VIAC, VIACA), Discovery+ (NASDAQ:DISCA), Apple TV+ (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Peacock (NASDAQ:CMCSA). And then there's Disney+ (NYSE:DIS), gaining on the leader and making a strong case that it's the No. 2 service. In the company's positive earnings report Thursday, it beat consensus expectations for 112.8 million Disney+ subs, landing at 116 million.
