VIACA - Disney's 'Shang-Chi' wins fourth week becomes top 2021 film
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (NYSE:DIS) easily held off Dear Evan Hansen (NASDAQ:CMCSA) to keep hold of the top spot at the weekend box office, and in the process became 2021's top grossing domestic film. It grossed $13.3 million in its fourth week of release at the top, bringing its cumulative total to $196.5 million and surpassing Black Widow's (DIS) $183.6 million. (Shang-Chi also has a worldwide total of $363.4 million, just behind Black Widow's global total of $378.4 million.) Aside from having the year's top two releases, Disney has five of the top eight: Behind Black Widow is Universal's (CMCSA) F9 ($173 million) and Paramount's (VIAC, VIACA) A Quiet Place Part II ($160 million), then Jungle Cruise from Disney ($114.9 million) and Free Guy from Disney's Fox acquisition ($114.1 million).
