GCTAY - Dominion Siemens Gamesa planning wind blade factory offshore Virginia
Dominion Energy (D -0.5%) and Siemens Gamesa (OTCPK:GCTAF) unveil plans to spend $200M to build the first U.S. factory to make blades for offshore wind power at Portsmouth, Va. Dominion's planned Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project is planned as the largest U.S. offshore wind farm, with 180 80-ft. tall turbines to be installed nearly 30 miles off the coast, with a goal of completion by 2026 depending on permits. CVOW, which is undergoing an environmental review by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, would have a capacity of 2.6 GW, enough to power 660K homes. The blade factory is planned to supply CVOW with ~500 blades but also look to other projects, much like Siemens Gamesa's blade factory in Hull, U.K.
