MCK - Drug distributors reach $400M opioid deal with West Virginia
- Three leading drug distributors in the U.S., McKesson ( MCK ), AmerisourceBergen ( ABC ), and Cardinal Health ( NYSE: CAH ), have struck a $400M settlement with West Virginia's cities and counties over the companies’ role in the opioid crisis, the state’s attorney general Patrick Morrisey said Monday.
- The deal settles with over 100 cities and counties, which alleged that the three companies fueled the opioid epidemic by oversupplying the state with pain medication.
- "This settlement, along with other settlements from other cases, will provide significant help to those affected the most by the opioid crisis in West Virginia," Morrisey said in a statement.
- The agreement builds on the previous settlements the companies struck with the state Attorney General's office.
- In 2021, the drug distributors and Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) proposed a $26B opioid settlement with a group of state attorneys general.
