• A Dutch court decision that obligates Shell to cut emissions by 45% worldwide by 2030 is likely to have a devastating effect on the company unless Shell's appeal will succeed.
• In the likely event that the appeal will fail, there is a drastic and unlikely alternative solution for the company to avoid being obliterated by the court decision, namely relocation.
• Compliance with the court order will mean an obliterated upstream sector, a less profitable and shrunken downstream sector and a growing and questionable profitability-wise green sector.
• As an investor, I am looking at taking advantage of gains in oil prices that will push Shell's stock up in order to systematically reduce my position in its stock before the appeal decision comes down.
