CEA - Elbit soars to top industrial gainer while Vertiv sees No. 1 loser tag

While Elbit has gained consistently for the past six months, Vertiv has lost more than 60% of its stock value in the same period.

The S&P 500 has been in the red for four out of the first six months of 2022. For the week ending July 1, the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF ( SPY ) was back in loss ( -2.27% ) after being in the green a week ago, which had broken a two-week losing streak. YTD, the ETF is -19.73% . The Industrial Select Sector SPDR ( XLI ) also fell -0.81% , after a rare week of gain last week. YTD, XLI is -16.74% .

The top five gainers in the industrial sector (stocks with a market cap of over $2B) all gained more than +8% each this week. However, YTD, only three out of these five stocks are in the green.

Elbit Systems ( NASDAQ: ESLT ) +11.11% . The Israeli aero-defense company is not only this week's top gainer but was also among the top five gainers in June and for the first six months of 2022 (in this segment). The week saw Elbit ink two separate agreements: one for a $70M contract to supply an Electronic Warfare solution and another a $220M deal to supply precision guidance kits for airborne munitions.  The company also completed the sale of Ashot to FIMI Opportunity Funds for $84M.

The SA Quant Rating on ESLT is Hold , which which takes into account factors such as growth and profitability, among others things. The average Wall Street Analysts' Rating is also Hold . YTD, the stock has gained +31.10% , the most among this week's top five.

China Eastern Airlines ( CEA ) +9.42% The Chinese company gained the most on June 28 ( +6.56% ) after travel stocks jumped following Chian's National Health Commission plans to ease quarantine restrictions. CEA was also among the top five gainers (in this segment) in Q2. The SA Quant rating on the stock is Hold , with Profitability and Valuation both having a factor grade of B-. The rating is in contrast to a Wall Street Analyst's Rating of Strong Buy . YTD, the stock has risen +2.97% .

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers ( RBA ) +9.28% was also among the top five gainers for June and Q2 besides taking a spot in this week's gainers by rising throughout the five days The SA Quant Rating and also the average Wall Street Analysts' Rating on the stock is Hold . YTD, RBA is +10.26% .

China Southern Airlines ( ZNH ) +8.95% also rose along with its peer CEA on report of shortening of quarantine period for international travelers in China. Later in the week, the company also signed a $12.2B deal to buy 96 Airbus jets. YTD, the stock has declined -2.70% .

Builders FirstSource ( BLDR ) +8.83% . The Dallas-based company may have cracked the top five this week but YTD, has shed -32.96% , the most among this week's gainers. However, the SA Quant Rating and also the average Wall Street Analysts' Rating on the stock is Strong Buy . Nine out of 13 analysts give it a Strong Buy.

This week's top five decliners among industrial stocks (market cap of over $2B) all lost more than -8% each. YTD, all these five stocks are in the red.

Vertiv ( NYSE: VRT ) -18.96% had a similar fate as the top gainer ESLT but in the opposite direction. The Ohio-based company, which makes digital infrastructure related products, was not only this week's top decliner but among the worst five decliners in H1, shedding -67.12% . YTD, the stock has declined the most among this week's worst 5. The SA Quant Rating on the stock is Hold , with Profitability having a factor grade of C- and Momentum  having a D- factor grade. The rating is in contrast to the average Wall Street Analysts' Rating of Buy , wherein 4 out of 10 analysts give the stock a Strong Buy rating.

Nikola ( NKLA ) -15.86% . The electric vehicle maker was also worst performing stock in June and Q2 (in this segment), declining -33% and -57% , respectively; and among the top five decliners in H1, shedding -51.82%. This week, the company pushed a shareholder meeting to July 18 to vote on a proposal to increase the number of outstanding shares to 800M from 600M. The average Wall Street Analysts' Rating is Hold , with an Average Price Target of $10.29. The Glendale, Calif.-based company, which provides an online platform for legal and compliance solutions, was among the decliners this week after seeing some gains about a month ago. The SA Quant Rating on LZ is a Strong Sell , which is in contrast to the average Wall Street Analysts' Rating of Buy . YTD, LZ has lost -30.30% . Read - Warning : LZ is at high risk of performing badly.

Hertz Global ( HTZ ) -8.83% . The Estero, Fla.-based car rental company was among the gainers two weeks ago but YTD, has fallen -33.49% . However, the average Wall Street Analysts' Rating is Buy , wherein 2 out of 8 analysts give a Strong Buy rating.

Ryanair ( RYAAY ) -8.50% . The Ireland-based airline has an average Wall Street Analysts' Rating of Strong Buy , while the SA Quant Rating on the stock is Hold . YTD, RYAAY has declined -32.91% .
