WMT - Electric aircraft demand is growing especially for deliveries
The first commercial passenger flight of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft is likely to launch within the next three to five years with several manufacturers competing to be the first to launch, according to a new study by L.E.K. Consulting. Advanced Air Mobility, or AAM, could eventually capture around 30% of the express post/same-day delivery market, while greater uptake can be expected where low-cost last-mile connection options can interface easily and cost-effectively with eVTOL deliveries.Meanwhile, Moelis thinks the eVTOL market can double in size to as high as 30,000 as a result of the electric aircraft replacement cycle, and as batteries evolve and extend the range to as far as 100 miles. Last week, United Airlines (UAL) announced it would buy 200 eVTOL aircraft from Archer (ACIC), a deal valued at $1B, with an option for an additional $500B of eVTOL planes.
