FF - EPA expects year-round sales of E15 ethanol fuel by next year

A Biden administration plan for year-round sales of E15 ethanol blend in eight Midwestern states likely will go into effect in summer 2024 , a year later than the states sought, Environmental Protection Agency Michael Regan told the House Agriculture Committee on Wednesday.

The EPA studied if it could make the change this summer but concluded there was not enough time for final rulemaking, saying "there would be a significant disruption to consumer pricing and the like if we moved too quickly in 2023."

The EPA allowed summertime sales of E15 last year through a temporary emergency waiver, and Regan said the agency could consider a similar move this summer.

The ethanol industry has long pushed for expanded sales of E15, while critics in the oil industry have said expanding E15 sales only in certain states could cause distribution problems.
