SSEZF - Equinor SSE to convert U.K. gas storage site to hydrogen
Equinor ([[EQNR]] -1.8%) says it is joining with U.K. energy company SSE (SSEZY) to develop plans for a hydrogen storage facility at their existing Aldbrough gas storage site on the north British coast.Upgrading the site to store hydrogen would involve converting the nine existing underground salr caverns or creating new purpose-built caverns to store the low-carbon fuel, Equinor says. The converted hydrogen storage site would have an initial expected capacity of at least 320 GWh, and the facility could be storing low-carbon hydrogen as early as 2028.The site would be used to store hydrogen from the Humber region, where a low-carbon, hydrogen hub is being developed, with the fuel planned for use for the heat, industry and transport markets starting from the late 2020s.
