Just a week ago, I wrote this article, Equity CEFs: What To Expect After The January Effect. Essentially I noted how difficult it was to judge CEFs after only 1-month into a new year. My, how prophetic that was.
That's because the first month's winners, i.e energy MLPs, which were up as much as 13% in NAV performance in January (and up to 20% in market price performance), came crashing down to earth last week leading all funds to the downside in NAV loss as shown in the following table.
