Investing is not always fun in games, even when dealing with a company that engages in the sale of fun and games. Case in point, we need only look at Escalade ( ESCA ), a business that is famous for selling a wide array of sporting goods products such as basketball goals, pickleball products, fitness products, table tennis goods, archery products, billiard tables and accessories, darting products, outdoor games, and more. In June of this year, I entertained the possibility of upgrading the company from a ‘hold’ to a ‘buy’. I acknowledged in that article the fact that fundamentals were showing signs of stabilizing. The firm was benefiting from improvements in profitability driven by margin expansion. This occurred even at a time when revenue was dropping and major products that it sells were experiencing soft demand....
