The pan-European Stoxx 600 edged 0.29% lower, with most sectors trading in tentatively positive territory. Oil and gas stocks led marginal gains, followed by travel and leisure and mining stocks. Banking stocks dropped.

Coming up in the session: ECB President Lagarde set to speak today.

In the bond market, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was down 5 basis points to 3.69%.

Germany's 10-year yield was down 5 basis point to 2.31%.

U.K.'s 10-year yield was down 2 basis point to 4.30%.
