The pan-European Stoxx 600 edged 0.22% lower, with sectors spread across losses and gains. Stock markets were slightly lower amid a slew of earnings and ahead of the latest monetary policy update from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Coming up in the session: All eyes are set on the US federal funds rate decision later in the day.

In the bond market, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was down 3 basis points to 3.88%.

Germany's 10-year yield was up less than 1 basis point to 2.42%.

U.K.'s 10-year yield was up 1 basis point at 4.28%.
