ALNPY - FAA orders immediate inspections after Denver jet incident
The Federal Aviation Administration says it has ordered emergency inspections of Boeing (BA) 777 planes equipped with the type of Pratt & Whitney (RTX) engine that broke apart in the air yesterday and scattered debris over suburban Denver."Based on initial information, we concluded that the inspection interval should be stepped up for the hollow fan blades that are unique to this model of engine, used solely on Boeing 777 airplanes," FAA Administrator Steve Dickson says.United (UAL), the only airline in the U.S. affected by the order, says it is temporarily removing its 24 active Boeing planes with the PW4000 series engines from its schedule; the company has 28 additional Boeing 777 aircraft with the engine type, but they are in storage.Also, Japan's transport ministry orders Japan Airlines (JAPSY) and ANA Holdings (ALNPY) to ground their Boeing 777s; ANA operates 19 planes and JAL 13 with the type of engine that failed
