FB - Facebook Oversight Board overturns four of five cases tilting toward speech
The first case decisions from Facebook's (FB) independent Oversight Board are in, and the group is overruling the social network on four out of five of them. This group of cases doesn't yet include Facebook's decision to suspend former President Trump's account, however. Along with overturning four decisions, the Oversight Board issued nine policy recommendations to the company. Facebook has said the board's decisions are binding on the company, and the decisions seem to indicate a bias on the board toward free speech. The board said it faced complex issues in the decisions. "In one case, Board Members looked at whether, in the context of an armed conflict, Facebook was right to remove an otherwise permissible post because it contained a hateful slur. In another, they examined whether a post accused of spreading COVID-19 misinformation contributed to imminent harm. In several cases, Members questioned whether Facebook’s rules were clear enough
