FB - Facebook revamps Pages dropping 'likes' button in favor of followers
Facebook (FB -1.7%) is implementing sweeping changes to its Pages experience - including dropping the "likes" button in a move to give public figures a clearer view of their supporters. A redesign of Pages (used by public figures and creators to gather their followers) now includes a redesigned, simpler layout, and brings a dedicated News Feed in for the first time. That allows Pages to interact with peers and engage with fans, as well as suggest new connections. Removing Likes and focusing on follower counts offers a simpler view to Page creators, the company says. "Unlike Likes, Followers of a Page represent the people who can receive updates from Pages, which helps give public figures a stronger indication of their fan base." It's also updated administration tools, including the ability to grant varying levels of access permissions to Page administrators.
