T - Films wrestle for scare market share in light Halloween box-office weekend
A hot month for big-budget movie releases is yielding to a quieter Halloween weekend, where Universal's (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Halloween Kills will hope to hold its horror-hungry audience against two new contenders for the scares crown. Meanwhile, after a successful bow last week, Dune (NYSE:T) is likely to lead the box office once again, looking to hold as much business as it can from a $41 million opening and riding some positive critical reaction. Halloween Kills was second behind Dune last weekend, with $14.5 million in its second week contributing to a total domestic gross of $73.1 million. That marks a 71% drop-off in business from its opening weekend, but Halloween fright-seekers likely mean a softer drop if any. The horror contenders this weekend: Last Night in Soho (CMCSA) and Antlers (NYSE:DIS).
