MPC - Fire at Marathon Petroleum refinery in Texas kills worker

A Marathon Petroleum ( NYSE: MPC ) employee died from a fire that erupted Monday at the company's 593K bbl/day Galveston Bay refinery in Texas.

Marathon ( MPC ) said the cause of the morning fire, which was brought under control by the afternoon, is under investigation, but Bloomberg reported the refinery had shut a catalytic reformer before the fire was reported at the unit, citing a note from Wood Mackenzie's Genscape.

The unit reportedly was shut about 8:45 a.m. local time, and the fire at the refinery began at about 9:30 a.m.
