FEYE - FireEye CEO: Bitcoin enables cyberattacks

anyaberkut/iStock via Getty Images Kevin Mandia, CEO of cybersecurity company FireEye (FEYE), said Monday that there was "no question" that cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC-USD) enabled cybercrime and ransomware attacks. In an interview with CNBC, Mandia also compared his job as "playing goalie" against cybercriminals, though he warned that "we can't play perfect defense every day." The FireEye CEO said that companies are better protected than ever before. However, this is counterweighted by the sheer number of attempted cybercrimes that take place, Mandia noted. Keeping up the sports metaphor, he compared this to an offense that had "unlimited attempts." On cryptocurrencies, Mangia argued the rise in cybercrime has come hand-in-hand with the increased availability of cryptos. To solve the problem, the FireEye boss suggested that making Bitcoin and other cryptos less anonymous could help.
